Changing Times/Changing Assessments

Educators know that teaching students to become good readers and writers is not an easy task. In this Age of Information, a much higher level of reading, writing, thinking and listening skills must be developed in all students. The Common Core Standards for Literacy require an integration of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in all content areas. There is also a far greater emphasis on developing nonfiction reading skills and the importance of informative and argumentative writing.

All of our new programs have been custom-created to offer a more systematic approach for integrating Common Core Reading, Writing, Language, Literacy, and Speaking and Listening Standards into everyday practice. We specialize in nonfiction reading and using this information to develop informative and argumentative writing skills. We demonstrate explicit techniques for every step of writing — the “how-to” of writing instruction. . Our guiding principle “the Power of Three helps students develop short-constructed responses, a wide variety of paragraphs and extended responses in all content areas. All of our programs integrate test-taking formats into every lesson.

We truly understand the connection between informative and argumentative writing and success on high stakes testing. The Smarter Balanced and PARCC Assessments, state developed writing assessments, along with the ACT and SAT Writing Tests all involve these important skills. Many districts who have participated in our professional development and use our materials have shown significant increases in district-developed writing assessments. We also help students succeed on national tests. For example, we have helped many high school students master the argumentative essay on the current ACT Exam and help students develop the analytical reading and writing skills that the SAT Exam requires. Out high school program “The Power of Grammar” integrates the formats used on ACT and SAT Exams.

Most importantly, the techniques we offer prepare students for the real world. Our ability to communicate effectively is a key element to business and personal success. Our high school programs are now available in a digital format. We will be delivering all of our material digitally in the near future.

Our Guiding Principle

“Thee Power of Three”

becomes the foundation for developing short-constructed responses, a wide variety of paragraphs, and extended responses (essays, reports, research). This principle also helps educators connect reading and grammar skills with test-taking success.

Teacher Friendly Professional Development and Classroom Modeling

All teachers, especially those that do not have an English/Language Arts background, must be exposed to strategies and professional development that will help them integrate reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in all content areas. Everything we create is designed to implement this process.

Most important of all, all of the products we create have been developed and used with teachers and students in classrooms. Training teachers is not enough; we are willing to go into classrooms and demonstrate our methods with real students. Our entire product line has been introduced in our classroom modeling sessions.

We know the enormous task that all educators face. Our job is to help make that task easier by translating educational theory into materials that are truly teacher-friendly. Change is far less threatening with the right tools and training. We honor and respect the dedicated educators in our country, and we will continually strive to do everything we can to help make the reading, writing, speaking, and listening connection an enjoyable one for teachers and students!
